Functional Materials and Manufacturing Institute

FMMI Education

Here at FMMI we are dedicated to producing research as well as educating and extending the opportunity to other students and teachers to participate in research. Within our Institute there is a Master's program for those interested in the interdisciplinary field of Materials Science and Engineering. We also have various educational research opportunities catered toward different students and teachers.

The MS-MSE Program has been around since 2016. Within this program, students are able to work in various disciplines to pursue their interest in Materials Science and Engineering. Our core faculty includes professors from the College of Arts & Sciences and the College of Engineering. Students have studied under faculty from the Chemistry, Physics, and various Engineering departments. The interdisciplinary approach to studying Materials Science and Engineering makes our program unique. For more information please click the MS-MSE link on the left.

Our three other research programs are geared toward different demographics thus giving even High School students an opportunity to partake in real world research. Each program presents a unique experience for those participating. They are as follows:

  • Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) - Designed to give college undergraduates an opportunity to work on a research project to get a good understanding of how scientific research works. It also aims to and build their communication and scientific skills during a summer semester.

  • Research Experience for Teachers (RET) - Designed to give high school teachers, community college, pre-service teachers teachers an opportunity to get research experience and translate the knowledge into their curricula. This program can be a huge benefit to teachers and their students alike.

  • Research Experience for High School Students (REHSS) - Designed to give high school students an opportunity to get a taste of college level research and build their technical, communication, and scientific skills before they even enter college.
