About the Program
(This program is not accepting applications for the 2018 program. Please check back next year for the 2019 program.)
The College of Engineering and the Functional Materials and Manufacturing Institute at the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL, announce summer 2017 research opportunities for community college, high school and pre-service STEM teachers and are now accepting applications. The program has the theme of Functional Materials and is funded by the National Science Foundation as a Research Experience for Teachers (RET) site. Selected teachers will participate in materials-related research with USF engineering faculty, share their experiences with fellow participants, attend seminars and classes, acquire oral and written presentation skills, learn how to conduct independent research, and develop a curriculum for their students based on this research experience.
If you are interested in applying, follow the instructions on the APPLICATION tab.
The RET program at USF has the theme of Functional Materials. The rationale for this focus is that materials science is both highly interdisciplinary (requiring support from a variety of scientific, mathematical and engineering disciplines) and has a pervasive presence in our everyday world. Materials Science also happens to be a major research emphasis and strength of the Functional Materials and Manufacturing Institute at the University of South Florida.
